Plenty of care services can supervise a child for a few hours. Fewer make a child want to walk through the door. That's the gap we set out to close when we opened in Cooloongup.

You'll find us at 27 Westerly Way, an easy run for families across Rockingham, Waikiki, Hillman, Shoalwater, Safety Bay, Peron and Warnbro.

Between Before School Care, After School Care, Vacation Care and the WA Kindy programme, we cover children aged 4 to 12 under one roof. As a CCS approved provider, most families pay significantly less than the standard fee.

Happy Hive Cooloongup runs a WA Kindy programme for children already enrolled in school kindergarten, covering the days they're not in the classroom. For local families, it means a genuine kindergarten programme without a long drive out of Rockingham.

The approach leans heavily on the Early Years Learning Framework: play, storytelling, music, time outdoors and small-group activities, guided by qualified early childhood educators. We also weave in early literacy work, so a 4 year old kindy child in our programme is picking up pre-reading and language skills well ahead of Pre-Primary.

The Child Care Subsidy is a federal government payment that brings down the cost of approved care. Rather than paying full price and claiming it back, the subsidy is applied directly, so what actually leaves your account is just the gap.

What you're entitled to comes down to combined household income, fortnightly hours spent working, studying or volunteering, and the type of care used. Most Rockingham-area families see a solid reduction, and quite a few pay very little at all.

What is OSHC and is it the same as childcare?

OSHC, or Outside School Hours Care, covers primary school-aged kids before school, after school and through the holidays. A lot of parents type "childcare Cooloongup" into Google when OSHC is actually what they're after, and either search will get you to us.

The real distinction: OSHC serves school-aged children from four upward, while long day care is for younger kids not yet at school. Happy Hive Cooloongup runs OSHC and the WA Kindy programme for ages 4 to 12 only, we don't run an infant or toddler long day care room at this site.

How does the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) work?

The CCS is a government payment that lowers your childcare bill. Happy Hive Cooloongup is a CCS approved OSHC provider covering Before School Care, After School Care, Vacation Care and the Kindy programme.

What you get back depends on combined household income and your recognised activity hours. You apply through myGov, the payment goes straight to us, and you only cover the gap. For some families that gap is as little as 10% of the standard fee.

The centre sits right on Westerly Way, an easy reach for most of Rockingham. Coming from Waikiki or Hillman, Read Street or Elanora Drive are the quickest routes in. From Safety Bay or Shoalwater, Safety Bay Road gets you here directly. There's parking on-site as well as along the surrounding streets.
