About this centre

OSHC and kindy in Wilson, run by people who've done this before.

There's a difference between a place that minds children and a place children look forward to going back to. We built the Wilson centre to be the second kind.

We're based at 4 Hares Street, Wilson, close enough for an easy pick-up run from Riverton, Shelley, Rossmoyne, Willetton, Parkwood, Bull Creek and Salter Point.

Our programme runs Before School Care, After School Care, Vacation Care and a WA Kindy programme for children aged 4 to 12. As a CCS approved provider, the subsidy is applied before you're billed, so what you actually pay is usually well below the sticker price.

Before School Care

We open our doors at 7:00 am, giving parents a workable window before the school run without needing to be out the door at dawn. Breakfast is on hand, and mornings are kept low-key: reading corners, quiet games, a chance to wake up properly before class starts.

After School Care

Kids arrive with pent-up energy after a full day in the classroom, so we start with something physical, sport, outdoor games, before settling into craft, group activities or quiet reading. Homework space is available for those who want it, no pressure either way. We run until 6:00 pm, which covers most Wilson-area work schedules.

For families with a child in school kindergarten, our Wilson kindy programme fills in the days they're not in class. It's a proper early learning environment, not just supervised playtime, close enough that Wilson and Riverton families don't need to travel far.

Educators plan sessions around the Early Years Learning Framework, mixing storytelling, music, outdoor time and small-group projects, with early literacy woven through so children build vocabulary and pre-reading skills alongside the confidence and social habits they'll need come Pre-Primary.

We are a CCS approved provider.

The Child Care Subsidy is the federal government's way of bringing childcare costs down for eligible families. It's applied directly to your invoice rather than something you claim back later, so the number you're billed is already reduced.

Your entitlement is worked out from combined household income and the hours you and your partner spend working, studying or volunteering each fortnight. For a lot of Wilson-area households, that adds up to a genuine reduction, sometimes a substantial one.

Questions Wilson parents often ask

Is OSHC the same thing as childcare?

Not quite, though the terms get used interchangeably. OSHC, Outside School Hours Care, is specifically for school-aged children, before school, after school and through the holidays. Long day care, by contrast, covers children who haven't started school yet. Search "childcare Wilson" or "OSHC Wilson" and you'll land on the same programme here, ages 4 to 12, we don't run an infant or toddler room at this site.

How much will the Child Care Subsidy actually save me?

It varies by household, but it's worked out from your combined income and your recognised hours of work, study or volunteering. Happy Hive Wilson is a CCS approved OSHC provider across before school care, after school care, vacation care and kindy, so however your family qualifies, it applies here. Apply through myGov, we're paid the subsidy directly, and your invoice reflects just the gap.

What primary schools does the Wilson centre pick up from?

Our regular pick-up routes currently reach Wilson Primary School and Riverton Primary School, with more partnerships in the works. If your child's school isn't on that list yet, get in touch, we'll see what's realistic.

Are your educators properly vetted?

Every educator at Wilson holds a current Working with Children Check and a recognised early childhood or school-age care qualification, plus up-to-date first aid, CPR and anaphylaxis training. That's a condition of being rostered here, not an afterthought.

What time does the Wilson centre open and close?

Before school care runs 7:00 am to 9:00 am, after school care runs 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, and vacation care runs 7:00 am to 6:00 pm across the WA school holidays. Kindy programme hours are set once your child is enrolled.
